Concrete Mix - Bulk Bag Supplies
We supply locally sourced 20mm gravel (granite) dust and 5mm crusher (grano) dust bulk bags as additives for concrete mix. As stand alone products they also have a variety of uses in construction and landscaping.
Delivery throughout the Isle of Lewis and Harris will be in 850kgs bulk bags from a mounted loader crane vehicle which requires 2.76m (9ft) minimum width for access. The crane arm can reach between 6.0-8.0m (19.5-26.0ft), depending on access and obstacles.
Aggregates for Concrete
Concrete is defined as a composite construction material, being made up of several different components. Modern concrete is most often made using a mix of water, portland cement, sand and aggregate in the form of small stones or crushed rocks.
Key points :-
Aggregates make up some 60-80% of the concrete mix. They provide compressive strength and bulk to concrete.
Aggregates in any particular mix of concrete are selected for their durability, strength, workability and ability to receive finishes.
For a good concrete mix, aggregates need to be clean, hard, strong particles free of absorbed chemicals or coatings of clay and other fine materials that could cause the deterioration of concrete.
Aggregates are divided into either ‘coarse’ or ‘fine’ categories. Coarse aggregates are particulates that are greater than 4.75mm. Fine aggregates are usually sand or crushed stone that are less than 9.55mm in diameter.
Typically the most common size of aggregate used in construction is 20mm. A larger size, 40mm, is more common in mass concrete.
Larger aggregate diameters reduce the quantity of cement and water needed.
